THE CHARITY

The Netley Marsh show was first held in 1971, when it was a one day show and called The Puffin, and local steam engine owners brought along their engines to entertain the visitors. The aim of the show was to raise funds to pay for urgent repairs to St Matthews Church. Following the success of that aim and the general enjoyment that was had by everyone who attended the show, it was decided that this should be an annual event.

The show has been going ever since, now a three day event with traction steam engines and a wide and varied range of vintage vehicles and engines, added to which there is always a wide range of entertainments for all ages.

A number of charities are supported locally, in return for the help freely given to help in the smooth running of the show. The local scouts, church and school members, rugby club, St Johns Ambulance, canoe and diving clubs, plus many others.

Some of the major donations include

Totton Ambulance Lifestat - Totton Dialysis Unit donation to the original appeal - Salterns School New Mini Bus - Ashurst Hospital furniture - Totton Help Line Telephone - Asthma Disease Research - Parkinson Disease Research - Save Bartley Church - Totton Dialysis Unit Dish Washer - Salterns School Mini Bus replacement - Netley Marsh Infants School 50% support for computer suite - Ashurst Pre School playground - Woodlands Pre School playground – St Matthews Church and Church Hall Netley Marsh up keep.

The whole of this show is supported and organised by teams of volunteers, none of whom receives any financial reward for the time given in the preparation and running of the event.
